Well, let me tell ya, this here sega cd thingamajig, it ain’t somethin’ I know much about. But my grandson, that whippersnapper, he’s always fiddlin’ with these newfangled gadgets. He told me somethin’ about playin’ old games on his phone, somethin’ called a “sega cd emulator android.” Sounds like a whole lotta hogwash to me, but he seems to like it.
What’s this Sega CD thing anyway?
From what I gather, this Sega CD was some kinda box you plugged into another box, a “Genesis” he called it. And they had these games on shiny discs, not like them cartridges we used to have. My grandson said these Sega CD games weren’t always the best, lots of them were just movies you watched, not real games. He said they called ‘em FMV games, whatever that means. He says the Sega CD coulda been somethin’ special, coulda had better games, like them RPGs and those arcade games he’s always yellin’ about.
Playin’ these old games on a phone? Now that’s somethin’
Now, get this, this phone he carries around, it ain’t just for callin’ folks. He says he can play all sorts of games on it, even those old Sega CD games. He’s got a whole bunch of ‘em on a little card, says he’s got over 50 of them games! Showed me one called Star Wars somethin’ or other, looked like a movie to me. But he was tappin’ on the screen and things were happenin’. He says he uses somethin’ called an “emulator,” sounds like magic to me. Makes the phone think it’s that old Sega CD thingy.
- He’s got a whole bunch of these emulators on there.
- Talks about “Genesis Plus GX” this and “*” that. Says one’s inside some other thing called “RetroArch.” Too many names for this old gal to remember.
- He says some are easier to use than others. One he called “ClassicBoy Pro” only plays some types of games.
He keeps blabberin’ about how some emulators are better than others, how some work better for certain games. He’s always fiddlin’ with the settings, tryin’ to make the games look better or play smoother. He showed me a bunch of apps, all with names I can’t pronounce. Said there are ones for all sorts of game boxes, not just that Sega thing. He mentioned Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft… sounds like a bunch of city slickers to me.
So, which one’s the best then?
Well, he seems to like that “Genesis Plus GX” one the best. Says it works real good and plays most of the games. He also uses that “*” one, says it’s simple to use. Seems like there’s a lot of choices, enough to make your head spin. He even showed me a list, said it had all sorts of emulators on it, for phones and computers. Names like Kega Fusion, OpenEmu, and PicoDrive. Sounded like a bunch of gibberish to me.
It’s all Greek to me, but he seems happy.
I tell ya, I don’t understand half of what he’s talkin’ about. All these fancy words and gadgets, it’s enough to make an old woman crazy. But he seems to enjoy it, and that’s what matters. He spends hours playin’ these old games, smilin’ and yellin’ at the screen. And I guess, if it makes him happy, then it can’t be all that bad. This “sega cd emulator android” thing, it’s a mystery to me, but it seems to bring him joy. And that’s good enough for me.
Anyways, that’s all I know about this here sega cd phone stuff. If you ask me, kids these days have too much time on their hands. Back in my day, we didn’t need no fancy phones to have fun. We just went outside and played. But times change, I guess. And as long as he’s not gettin’ into trouble, I reckon I can let him play his games.
