Alright, let’s talk about this Android crossword thing. You know, those word puzzles you play on your phone? Yeah, those. My grandkids, they’re always fiddlin’ with them phones, and sometimes I see ’em playin’ these word games. Looks kinda fun, I guess, but also kinda makes my head hurt just lookin’ at it.
Now, what I heard is that these crossword puzzles ain’t new. Some fella way back when, in 1913, he made the first one. They called it a “word-cross” at first, and it looked like a diamond. Then they changed the name to “cross-word” and finally just “crossword”. Heard tell he got the idea from some old game they played in a place called Pompeii. Don’t know where that is, sounds fancy.
These crossword puzzles, they’re like a bunch of squares, black and white, all mixed up. And you gotta stick words in ’em. Some words go across, some go down. They give you clues, little hints to help you figure out what words go where. Sometimes the clues are easy, like “what’s the opposite of black?” Well, that’s white, easy peasy. But sometimes them clues, they’re tricky. They make you scratch your head and think hard.
The young’uns tell me there’s this game called Word Cross on them phones. Says it’s “addictive”, whatever that means. Guess it’s like when you can’t stop eatin’ them cookies, even though you’re full. Anyways, this Word Cross game, it’s supposed to be like a crossword but without all the fuss. They got different ways you can play it, too. Sounds complicated, but I guess if my grandkids can do it, it can’t be that hard.
- One thing I learned is that sometimes them empty spaces in the puzzle, they need more than one word. Like, maybe it’s a saying or somethin’. The easy puzzles, they tell you if it’s two words, but the hard ones, they don’t give you no help. You’re on your own.
- Then there’s all these different games you can get on your phone. They got names like Alphacross Crossword and Bonza Word Puzzle. And another one called Crossword Unlimited. That one sounds like it’s got a whole bunch of puzzles, probably enough to keep you busy for a good long while. They say it works on both Android phones and them Apple phones too.
I tell you what, though, all this talk about crosswords is makin’ me tired. Back in my day, we didn’t have no phones or fancy word games. We had real books and real pencils. And if we wanted to play a word game, we just talked to each other. But I guess times change, huh? And these young’uns, they like their phones and their games. And if they’re gonna play games, I guess a crossword puzzle ain’t the worst thing they could be doin’. At least they’re usin’ their brains a little bit, right? Better than just starin’ at the TV all day.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do on your phone, maybe give one of these Android crossword games a try. Who knows, you might even like it. Just don’t blame me if you get hooked and can’t put it down! And don’t forget to take a break every now and then. Go outside, get some fresh air, talk to a real person. That’s important too.
And one last thing, don’t spend all your time on that phone. There’s real life to be lived outside them screens! Go on, get outta here and enjoy the sunshine, or whatever weather you got. Just remember, life ain’t all about crosswords and phones.
