New ftpm firmware available! (Learn how to update)

Well, I’ll be… I got this newfangled computer thingamajig, and it’s been giving me a headache. See, it keeps flashing this message about “detected new ftpm firmware.” What in tarnation is that, I wonder? Sounds like some kinda government gobbledygook to me.

I ain’t no computer whiz, that’s for sure. I just wanna check my emails and maybe look at some pictures of my grandkids. But this here message, it just keeps poppin’ up every time I turn the darn thing on. It’s like a pesky fly that won’t leave you alone.

This “ftpm firmware” thing, it’s got somethin’ to do with the processor, I reckon. That’s what some folks online been sayin’. They say it’s like the brain of the computer. Mine must be addled or somethin’.

The screen, it gives me two choices, see? It says “Press Y” or “Press N.” Now, I ain’t one to just go pressin’ buttons willy-nilly. What if I press the wrong one and the whole thing blows up? My old TV did that once, back in ’88. Scared the bejeezus outta me.

Some folks say if you got somethin’ called “Bitlocker,” you gotta be careful. Bitlocker…sounds like somethin’ you’d use to keep your shed locked up tight. I don’t think I got that. I just use this computer for simple things.

One fella said to type some words into a special box, “manage-bde -status” it says, to see if your “drives” are “encrypted.” Sounds like somethin’ out of a spy movie. I don’t got no secret documents in here, just my recipes and some funny cat videos. This is all about the ftpm firmware update stuff, I think.

If you hit “Y,” they say it’ll “reset” this fTPM. I guess that’s like hittin’ the reset button on my old alarm clock. Maybe that’ll fix it. But then it says somethin’ about a “recovery key” if you got that Bitlocker thing. Sounds complicated.

Others say to hit “N.” That’s supposed to “keep previous fTPM record.” Sounds like keepin’ track of somethin’. Maybe like keepin’ track of how many jars of preserves I made last summer.

I even tried unplugging something called a “hub.” Don’t know what that is, but it didn’t do nothin’. This “detected new ftpm firmware” message is still there, starin’ me in the face.

They say this whole mess might be because of somethin’ called a BIOS update. Sounds like somethin’ a doctor would do. Maybe my computer’s got a virus? I hope it ain’t catchin’.

The main thing is you gotta update this ftpm firmware. It is in the security settings. I had to find my glasses to see that.

  • Go to System Settings.
  • Then you gotta click on Security.
  • Then find the thing that says Trusted Platform Module.
  • Then you gotta click update.

After that you just gotta turn the whole thing off and on again. Restart it, like kickin’ the tires on an old truck. Just like the old days, eh? That fixed it.

Another thing some folks said is that this ftpm firmware stuff is to do with a new processor. Like if you just bought a new one for your computer. Then it just happens by default. Somethin’ about the motherboard. Land sakes. That is complicated.

Anyways, this whole “detected new ftpm firmware” thing is a real head-scratcher. I just want it to go away so I can get back to my cat videos. Maybe I’ll ask my grandson to take a look at it. He’s good with these computer things. He keeps talking about the “internet” and “google.” Maybe this “google” knows about “ftpm firmware.”

I sure hope I don’t have to buy a new computer. This one’s only a few years old. Maybe it’s just gettin’ old, like me. Ha! Well, I’m gonna go make myself a cup of tea and try not to worry about it too much. These newfangled machines are more trouble than they’re worth sometimes. But at least it is fixed now. Thank goodness.
