My grandson, he’s been reading things, looking at the computer. He says there’s this thing called “curve optimizer.” Sounds fancy, like something you’d see at the county fair. He says that’s the right way to undervolt this 5900X. Don’t ask me what it means. He clicks around in the computer, changes some numbers. He says it’s like letting a little air out of a tire.
- Curve Optimizer – This is the way to go, he says.
- Lower PPT – Whatever that is. He says to lower it “gradually.” Like turning down the flame on the stove, real slow.
- Negative Offsets – More computer talk. He says it’s important for this 5900X thing. It is good for Zen3, I don’t know what is Zen3.
- Keep Temps Down – That’s the whole point, he says. Keep the computer from getting too hot.
He’s Trying, My Grandson
He’s been trying different things. He says he’s using “games” to test it out. This one game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, that’s the name, I think. He says a “-10 all core” is stable. What is -10 all core? I don’t know. But it is good for undervolt.
He keeps saying he wants the same “performance” but lower “temps.” Like he wants the horse to pull the cart just as fast but not sweat so much. He wants to keep the power draw down, save some money on the electric bill. It is good for energy, he said. He is a good boy, you know. He wants to keep the computer quiet, too. He doesn’t like the loud fan noise, says it’s distracting.
It’s All About Balance
He says it’s all about finding the “sweet spot.” Like finding the right amount of sugar for your tea. Not too hot, not too noisy, but still gets the job done. This undervolting, it’s like that, I guess. Trying to find the right balance for this 5900X thing, making sure the CPU doesn’t get hot.
He tried to explain it to me, bless his heart. He said undervolting this 5900X is like tuning a guitar. You gotta adjust the strings just right to get the right sound. Too loose, and it sounds bad. Too tight, and it might break. He’s trying to find that perfect tune for his computer, I reckon.

Still a Mystery to Me
