You know, that RetroArch thing, it’s a real head-scratcher. I wanted to play my old GameCube games, the ones I used to play all the time. But my save state, you know, where you leave off in the game, it’s gone! Vanished! Like a needle in a haystack, I tell ya.
I remember that young folks talking ’bout this RetroArch. They say it can play all sorts of old games. Well, I got it, and I got my GameCube games on it. But now I can’t find where I left off. It’s like I’m startin’ all over again! And I ain’t got the time for that, no sir.
Someone told me about somethin’ called “saves” and “states” folders. Sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me. But apparently, that’s where RetroArch keeps your game progress. I poked around in the settings, lookin’ for anything that says “saves” or “states.” It’s like lookin’ for a lost chicken in the dark, I tell ya.
I saw somethin’ about a “Directory” page. And there it was, plain as day: “Save Files” and “Save States.” So, that’s where they’re hidin’! Now, I just gotta figure out how to get ’em back.
Some folks say the F2 button is for saving the state, and F4 is for loading it. Load and save, they call it, sound like loading up a truck. But my game progress is still gone. Maybe them buttons don’t work. I don’t know what I did.
- Click the Gear icon.
- Scroll down, down, down to the bottom, almost.
- Find “Directory”.
- There they are! “Save Files” and “Save States”.
Now, I heard some people sayin’ it wasn’t a “savestate” but an “in-game save”. Whatever that means. They said to search for the game’s name, somethin’ called a ROM name. RetroArch keeps the saves with the same name, they say. Well, I tried that, and still nothin’. It’s like lookin’ for a lost sock in the laundry.
Then there’s this other thing I heard. Someone said they accidentally overwrote their save file. Lost all their progress! Sounds like a nightmare. They asked if there’s any way to get it back. I bet there ain’t. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. Like spilt milk, you can’t put it back in the bottle.
I messed around with the settings some more. I found somethin’ called “savefile” and “savestate” directories. I tried changin’ them, movin’ them to different folders on my SD card. I thought maybe, just maybe, that would do the trick. Nope, still nothin’. Just like tryin’ to teach an old dog new tricks.
Someone mentioned that GameCube saves are in a “GC” folder, and Wii saves are in a “Wii” folder. Well, that makes a little sense, I guess. But I still can’t find my GameCube save state missing. It is like a ghost!
And then there was this fella talkin’ about a fresh install. He had to wipe everything clean and start over because RetroArch kept crashin’. Sounds like a real mess. I sure hope I don’t have to do that.
I found a thing that says “Settings,” then “Directory,” then “Savefile.” It’s like a map, but I’m still lost! They say the defaults for somethin’ called Linux were changed in version 1.8.9. What’s Linux? Sounds like somethin’ you clean your floors with.
And get this, someone’s talkin’ about an Xbox and a GameCube memory card. How’s that supposed to work? Sounds like tryin’ to put a square peg in a round hole. I guess if you take a break from playing these games, you should make backups of your saves. I don’t know what I did wrong. I think retroarch gamecube save state missing, maybe forever.
Then, a kind soul on somethin’ called Discord helped me out. They said to load the save state in an emulator on a computer. Now, I got to look for this game save on another computer. Retroarch gamecube save is too hard for me.
I wish it was easy to find retroarch gamecube save state.
