Alright, let’s talk about this Firefox thing, or whatever them young folks call it, “forks.” Sounds like somethin’ you eat with, but they say it’s like… different kinds of the same thing. Like, you got your regular ol’ Firefox, and then you got these… other ones. Why? I dunno, somethin’ about privacy and speed, they say. Kids these days.
So, they tell me one of the best is called Mull. They say it’s like Firefox, but… skinnier. Less junk in it, makes it go faster, I guess. But not too fast, mind you, just… a little faster. Like takin’ off a heavy coat in the summer, you know? Still you, just not as much weighin’ you down.
- Mull is good, they say, but not the fastest.
Then there’s this LibreWolf. Sounds fancy, right? Wolf and all. This one, they say, is all about keepin’ your business your business. Private, they call it. Like closin’ the curtains so nobody can peek in while you’re eatin’ supper. Seems important to these young folks, always worried about someone watchin’. Me? I ain’t got nothin’ to hide, but I guess they do with all their computin’ and whatnot.
Waterfox, now that’s a name I understand. Water and fox, two things I seen plenty of in my time. This one’s supposed to be faster too, and private. Kinda like a quick, sneaky fox, I reckon. They say it’s made to be quicker and keep your stuff secret better than that regular Firefox.
Now, there’s a Firefox for them developer folks. Don’t know what a developer is, but sounds important. They got their own special Firefox, like a special tool for their work. Guess it’s got extra stuff they need, like a carpenter with a fancy hammer, I suppose. There’s even a few versions, they tell me. Four, I think. More than I need, that’s for sure.
And then there’s this Tor Browser. Works on all sorts of things, they say. Computers, phones, even that Linux thingamajig. This one’s real private, like super secret. They say it bounces your stuff all over the place so nobody can track it. Sounds like a lotta work just to look at cat pictures, but what do I know?
Some folks make their own Firefox, too. They call it “custom” and “independent.” Like makin’ your own quilt instead of buyin’ one at the store, I guess. They do it for privacy, mostly. Seems like everyone’s worried about privacy these days. Back in my day, privacy was just havin’ a door that closed.
- Lots of folks are worried about privacy, so they make their own kinds of Firefox.
They got some other ones, too, different styles, they say. Like different kinds of cars, I guess. Some are like that Vivaldi and Opera, whatever they are. Fancy names, like them city cars. Are they worth a try? I dunno. I stick to my old ways, myself. But these youngsters, they like to try new things.
LibreWolf comes up again and again. They keep sayin’ it’s free and open, whatever that means. And it’s all about privacy and security. They get rid of the…telemetry, they call it. Sounds like some kinda spyin’ device, to me. And they add other good stuff, too, they say.
Then there’s this one, they call it experimental. It’s supposed to help you focus and get work done. Hyper somethin’-somethin’ UI, they call it. Sounds complicated. Like tryin’ to drive one of them new tractors with all the buttons and screens. I’d rather just get to work.
So there you have it, all these different Firefox thingies. Mull, LibreWolf, Waterfox, Tor, and a whole bunch of others. All tryin’ to be faster or more private or somethin’. Me? I’m just tryin’ to understand what all the fuss is about. But maybe, just maybe, one of these newfangled things is worth a try, even for an old gal like me. Though I doubt it’ll help me bake a better pie.
