Alright, so you wanna see them FPS numbers when you’re playin’ your games, huh? Old Bess here can tell ya how to get that RivaTuner thingy to show ’em. It ain’t rocket science, I tell ya.
First off, ya gotta get that RivaTuner thing installed. And that Afterburner thing too, they go together like peas in a pod. Don’t ask me where to get ’em, the young’uns always know these things. Just tell ’em you need that “Afterburner” and “RivaTuner” and they’ll figure it out. Make sure you download it from a safe place, ya hear? Don’t want no nasty viruses on your computin’ machine.
Now, once you got that stuff all set up, it’s time to get them numbers showin’. Open up that Afterburner thingy. Looks kinda complicated, all them dials and numbers, but don’t you worry none. We ain’t messin’ with most of that stuff.
Ya gotta find the “Monitoring” tab. It’s usually up at the top somewhere. Click on that. Now you’ll see a whole bunch of stuff, most of it you don’t need to care about. What we’re lookin’ for is the “Framerate”. Scroll through that list till you find it. Might be called “FPS” too. Same thing, just fancy talk.
- Click on that “Framerate” thing.
- Then ya gotta find a little box that says somethin’ like “Show in On-Screen Display” or “OSD”.
- Make sure that box is checked. That’s real important. If it ain’t checked, nothin’s gonna show up.
Okay, now we gotta go to that RivaTuner thingy. It’s usually runnin’ in the background, ya know, hidden like a mouse in the pantry. Look for a little icon down in the corner of your screen, near the clock. Might be a little monitor lookin’ thing. Double-click on that.
Now, this thing looks even more complicated than Afterburner, but don’t you fret. We ain’t touchin’ much here neither. Just make sure it’s turned on. There’s usually a little switch or somethin’ at the top. Flip that switch to “On”. If it ain’t on, nothin’s gonna work, see?
Now comes the tricky part. Sometimes, these things don’t just work right off the bat. Ya gotta tell it which game you want to see them numbers in. Some games, they just work. Others, ya gotta fiddle with it a bit. I ain’t too good at explainin’ this part, but I’ll try.
Back in that Afterburner thingy, in the “Monitoring” tab, there’s a way to add specific games. Look around for a button that says somethin’ like “Add” or “Profiles”. Ya might have to poke around a bit. Click on that and then you gotta find the game you want. It’s usually in the “Program Files” folder on your computin’ machine. Find the game’s folder and then find the little program that starts the game, ya know, the “.exe” thingy. Click on that and add it.
Now, another thing you can try, if them numbers still ain’t showin’, is that “Benchmark” thing. Someone told me about it. Seems like you gotta run the game as a “benchmark” to get them numbers to stick. In that Afterburner thingy, there’s a tab called “Benchmark”. Click on that and then there’s a button that says somethin’ like “Start Benchmark”. Click on that and run your game for a bit. Then stop the benchmark. Sometimes, that makes them numbers show up.
And if that still don’t work, well, I don’t know what to tell ya. Maybe ask one of them young’uns for help. They seem to know all this computin’ stuff. But that’s the gist of it. Get Afterburner, get RivaTuner, make sure the “Framerate” is set to show on the screen, and then fiddle with it till them numbers pop up. It ain’t always easy, but it ain’t impossible neither. Good luck, and happy gaming!
Oh, and one more thing. Them numbers, they’ll be on your screen when you’re playin’ the game. Usually up in a corner somewhere. They might be small, so look close. And if they’re red, that means your game ain’t runnin’ so good. Ya want them numbers to be high and green, that means everything’s dandy. Alright, that’s all I got. Now go get them FPS numbers showin’!
And if all this makes your head spin, you can always try that Windows thing. You know, press the Windows key and the “G” key at the same time. That brings up some kinda game bar, and there’s a “Performance” section in there that shows the FPS too. It’s a bit simpler, but it gets the job done if you just want a quick look.
