Alright, listen up, y’all. I’m gonna tell ya ’bout this Alexa thingy, the one that’s supposed to be so smart. Yeah, that little speaker box. Well, sometimes, it ain’t so smart after all. Especially when it comes to settin’ timers. You know, for cookin’ and such.
My Alexa, She Don’t Listen Sometimes
I swear, this thing drives me nuts sometimes. I’ll be in the kitchen, hands covered in flour, tryin’ to bake a cake for the church social. And I’ll say, “Alexa, set a timer for 30 minutes.” And she’ll say back, all nice and polite-like, “Okay, 30 minutes, starting now.” But guess what? Nothin’ happens! No tickin’, no countin’ down, nothin’. Just silence. And then, next thing you know, the cake’s burnt to a crisp, and I gotta start all over again. Darn thing!
What’s Wrong with This Gadget?
So, I started pokin’ around, tryin’ to figure out what’s goin’ on with this Alexa. Looked in that app thingy on my phone, the one my grandkids set up for me. Confusin’ as all get-out, if you ask me. But I found somethin’ about timers and alarms. Said somethin’ ’bout “reminders and alarms” in the settings. I tapped around, but still couldn’t make heads or tails of it.
- Sometimes she says she’s settin’ the timer, but nothin’ happens.
- Other times, the timer shows up in the app, but it just sits there at zero, like it’s stuck.
- And then there’s the times she says, “Sorry, I’m having trouble.” Trouble doin’ what? Settin’ a timer? A baby could do that!
Is It Just Me?
I asked my neighbor, Mary, if she has the same problem. She’s got one of them Alexas too. Says hers works just fine. Of course, Mary’s always been a bit smug, showin’ off her fancy gadgets. But it got me thinkin’, maybe it’s just my Alexa that’s broken. Or maybe it’s somethin’ I’m doin’ wrong. But I swear, I’m speakin’ plain English! It ain’t like I’m askin’ her to fly to the moon.
The Daylight Savin’ Time Thing
Then, I heard somethin’ on the radio ’bout that daylight savin’ time. You know, when they mess with the clocks, spring forward, fall back, all that nonsense. Apparently, that can mess with these Alexa things too. Someone was sayin’ their Alexa wouldn’t set timers or alarms after the time change. Well, that makes a lick of sense, I guess. But still, you’d think these smart gadgets would be smart enough to figure that out.
Tryin’ to Fix It
I tried all sorts of things. Unplugged the Alexa, plugged it back in. Yelled at it a few times, that didn’t work either, just made the dog bark. Tried settin’ the timer from the app, same problem. It’s like the darn thing is just stubborn. Or maybe it’s just plain broke. I ain’t tech-savvy, so I don’t know how to fix it. Might have to get one of my grandkids to come over and take a look.
Goin’ Old School
You know what I ended up doin’? I went back to usin’ my old kitchen timer, the one with the twisty knob. It ain’t fancy, but it works. And it don’t talk back, that’s for sure. Maybe these newfangled gadgets ain’t all they’re cracked up to be. Sometimes, the old ways are the best ways.
Maybe An Update or Somethin’?
I heard sometimes these things need updates, like a computer or somethin’. Maybe that’s the problem. Maybe Alexa needs a little somethin’-somethin’ to get her brain workin’ right again. I don’t know how to do that though. Like I said, I’m no tech whiz. I just wanna bake my cake without burnin’ it, is that too much to ask?
So, What’s the Deal?
So, if your Alexa ain’t settin’ timers, don’t feel bad. You ain’t alone. It’s a pain in the neck, that’s for sure. Maybe it’s the gadget, maybe it’s the daylight savin’ time, maybe it’s somethin’ else entirely. But one thing’s for sure, it’s mighty frustratin’. I guess I’ll just keep yellin’ at it till it works, or until my grandkids can come fix it. Or maybe I’ll just stick with my trusty old kitchen timer. At least I know that one works.
