Okay, so I wanted to mess around with some LED lights, the kind you can plug into a USB port. I’ve seen these all over the place, and figured it was time I got my hands dirty.
Getting Started
First things first, I got myself a strip of these USB LED lights. They weren’t expensive, just a basic set I picked up. Came in a simple package, nothing fancy. I unpacked the lights and laid them out to see what I was working with. They had a sticky back, which was pretty convenient.
Figuring Out the Power
Next, I needed to power these things. Since they’re USB, I figured my laptop would do the trick. I plugged the USB connector into a free port on my laptop, and boom, the lights came on. Pretty straightforward so far. They were a cool white color, just like I wanted. I tested out the different brightness settings using the little inline controller. It had buttons to cycle through different modes, and increase or decrease the brightness.
Sticking Them On
Now for the fun part – actually sticking these lights somewhere. I decided to put them on the back of my desk monitor. Cleaned the surface with a cloth to make sure the adhesive would stick well. Then, I carefully peeled off the backing paper from the LED strip and stuck it along the top edge of my monitor. It was a little tricky to get it straight, but I managed.
The Final Touch
With the lights in place, I stepped back to admire my handiwork. They looked pretty cool! It added a nice ambient glow to my workspace. I played around with the different colors and brightness settings some more, just to see what I liked best. Decided to stick with a warm white at medium brightness. It feels way more cozy now.
