Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “Dark Age of Camelot” thing lately, specifically something called a “freeshard.” It’s like a fan-made server for this old MMORPG, you know? And let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I decided to take a look at it because it is a classic game I used to play when I was little.
I started by looking for a good freeshard online. There were a few options. I saw something about “Uthgard,” which sounded like it was going for the real old-school experience. Then there’s one called “Eden” that seemed pretty popular. And also “Celestius” is another option I found.
I went with “Eden” because it was close to another Season. I followed the instruction to download the game client and got the necessary files for the freeshard. I installed everything, which was pretty easy.
Once I got it all installed, I created an account on their website. Then I used it to log into the game. It was like stepping back in time. I made a new character – a cute little mage – and picked a realm. It was a bit overwhelming at first with three realms to choose from.
After that, I jumped into the game. There were a bunch of other people running around, doing quests, and fighting monsters. It was pretty cool. The community seemed chill, too. I saw some folks chatting in the general channel, talking about the good old days of the game. I also saw some people organizing groups for raids and stuff.
I spent a few hours just exploring the world, doing some basic quests, and leveling up my character. It felt pretty good. There were definitely some bugs and glitches, as you’d expect from a fan-made project, but nothing too game-breaking. I also met some friendly players who helped me out with some quests.
The best part is that there are many teleporters, and I can move around very fast. The leveling is also not too slow because of the BG quests and fights. This is really helpful for players like me who don’t have too much time to play.
Overall, I’ve had a pretty decent time with this whole “Dark Age of Camelot” freeshard experiment. It’s a fun way to revisit an old classic. I’ll probably keep playing for a while and see how it goes. The good thing is I know there are still options for me. I might try Uthgard or Celestius someday. You never know, right?
